Anthony in India as “Royal envoy” to Princess Diana.
I was in India to deliver this message from Princess Diana as her “Royal Envoy”. It sounds like a grand title, but really I was only delivering a message – a messenger boy! 🙂
I was highly privileged, indeed humbled to convey this message. Privileged because I carried a Royal “seal”, humbled because it was delivered to medical staff who dedicate their lives to helping the poorest, in difficult conditions.
It should go on record, so here it is along with a photo that I took whilst on tour in Africa (but that´s a different story, for another day – one that totally changed my life.)
Diana, Princess of Wales. Message to the Headquarters Staff of TLM in Delhi, India.

“It gives me great pleasure to thank you for the work that you do amongst Leprosy patients. I have much admired you for many years. The care and love that you show for people who are amongst the poorest, often disabled and in distress, has brought them and their families encouragement and happiness.
I am sorry that I cannot be with you today but I am sending to you a trusted friend who will deliver my message and convey my sincere love to you.
There remain nearly fifteen million people who suffer from this dreadful disease which is now fully curable, with your intervention.
My hope and prayer is that your work will continue and expand with the support of many others. You most certainly have my support, and this will continue.
With my best wishes and greatest respect, Diana.”
As said, it was one of my greatest privileges to deliver this message. You can imagine how I felt! Naturally I said more, as she requested me; to convey the love and support of millions of people who donate their money – and in many cases their lives to this very worthy cause.
The Leprosy Mission (TLM), of which I was a director and member of the IGC (International General Council) for many years works in more than 30 countries.
